Day 1: National Park of Thingvellir – Waterfalls and Hot Springs

The highlights of the day are the national park of Thingvellir, where the Althing, the oldest still existing parliament of the world was established in 930 AD and where the riftzone between the Euroasian and North American earthplates is visible. Additionally we will visit the Hraunfossar waterfalls and Deiltartunguhver, the water  hotspring in the northern hemisphere before we continue to Akureyri, the „capital“ of North Iceland.

Day 2: Akureyri- Lake Mývatn

The morning is spent exploring the town, in Akureyri is the biggest botanical garden in Iceland, one can stroll down the shopping street or visit some of Akureyri´s many museums. In the afternoon we will continue to lake Mývatn where we will take a walk to the lavaformations of Dimmuborgir.

Day 3:  The Volcanic Landscape of Lake Myvatn

Lake Myvatn is the country´s fourth largest lake and it is known world wide fort it´s exceptionally many duck species. The lake´s surroundings show such variety in amazing geological formations and landscapes that one could spend days just exploring this area. The area is extremely volcanic, nine eruptions took place there from 1975 to 1984. We will  visit the pseudocraters at Skútustaðir ,the bubbling fumaroles at Námaskarð and  hike to the Krafla volcano.  It is ideal to end the day by relaxing in the warm water of the Nature Baths.

Day 4: Húsavík – Dettifoss – Egilsstaðir

We will drive around the Tjörnes peninsula where we might spot some puffins, walk to  the canyon Asbyrgi which according to the legend is a  footprint of Sleipnir, Odins eight legged horse. But the highlight of the day is Dettifoss the most powerful waterfall in Europe. We stay overnight in Egilstadir east-Iceland.

Day 5 : Egilsstaðir – Höfn

Today´s route will take us along the Eastern Fjords which are known for pictersuque fishing villages located in narrow fjords surrounded by high mountains. Many semiprecious stones are to be found in the Eastern Fjords, a visit to Petras Stone collection in Stöðvarfjörður is really unforgettable.

Day 6 : Höfn –The Glacier Lagoon – Hella


A visit to the glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón does not leave the visitor untouched. Icebergs of all sizes and forms are drifting in the lagoon. We will sail on an amphibien vehicle in between the icebergs before we continue to the nationalpark of Skaftafell where we take a hike to the spectacular waterfall Svartifoss,  other highlights of the day are the waterfalls Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss,we stop at the black sandbeach near Vik where we will see uniqe basalt columns and where puffins can often been seen. We pass the glacier Myrdalsjökul and the world famous Eyjafjallajökul which erupted in 2010 , sending an  ash cloud over Europe.

We spend the next night in Hella a little village in south Iceland

Day 7: Hella-Gullfoss-Geysir-Reykjavik

Today we are visiting some of the main attractions of South Iceland the waterfal Gullfoss and the Geysir area where the geysir Strokkur is regulary spouting water fountains up to the air.We continue through fertile farmland and barren lavafields to Reykjavik where we end the day with a city sightseeing tour.
